Stress Buster:

Get
Over Yourself
.
Worried
about starting a new class or activity? Beat the "I can't do
this" blues with these confidence boosters from Joan Price, author
of Yes, You CAN Get in Shape!
- Just
show up. That's most important. Even if you're feeling weird in
class, remember that you succeeded the moment you walked through the
door.
- Pick
your own milestones. Don't compare yourself to the you of yesterday
or anyone else in the room.
- Remember
why you're there. Did you make the leap into a new activity because
it inspires you or makes you feel good? Staying in touch with why
you're there may help you feel less self-critical.
- Bring
a buddy. It'll help lighten the experience when you can laugh with
and at each other, and gossip about Ms. Firm Butt next to you.
- Change
your vocabulary. Instead of saying "I can't dance," for
example, tell yourself, "I just haven't learned to dance
yet." No matter what your new fitness challenge is, this trick
can help change your self-defeating beliefs, Price says.
